Dinuba Lumber History

Dinuba Lumber has been in existence since the 1920's. Prior to that it was known as Western Lumber Co. which was in existence prior to 1900. In 1950 Brooks Schaffer and plus a partner or two purchased Dinuba Lumber Co.
Brooks Schaffer Sr. pictured below still works as Vice President of Dinuba Lumber. Charles Schaffer Sr. pictured above purchased Mead Clark Lumber from Mr. Mead Clark in the 1920's and renamed the business Citizen's Lumber Co. Mr. Mead Clark went on to found one of the largest lumber yards on the west coast. Mead Clark Lumber in Santa Rosa CA which is still in operation today. Charles Schaffer Sr. ran the Kingsburg Citizen's Lumber operation through WWII.
Charles Schaffer Jr. and his wife Eilene operated the lumber yard prior and during WWII. When Charles Jr. went off to war in England as a radio man on a B-24 his wife Eilene ran Citizens Lumber Reedley. Brooks Sr. is a WWII vet as well and a participant in D-Day.
Stanley Schaffer and his wife Edna Erle were in the Pacific during WWII. Stanley and Edna Erle Schaffer went on to start and become very successful with Schaffer Laboratories. Charles Schaffer Sr. and his sons Charles, Stanley, and Brooks sold the pictured Kingsburg CA location in the 1960's.
Charles Schaffer Jr.owned a portion of Citizens Lumber and he operated the Reedley CA location. Charles Schaffer Jr. is recently deceased at age 95. His presence will be missed. Brooks Sr. operated the Dinuba Lumber operation.
Brooks Jr. grew up working in the lumber business. Brooks Jr. worked for Dinuba Lumber, Citizens' Lumber Selma, Citizens Lumber Reedley and Sawtelle Lumber in Santa Monica. In the early 2000's Brooks Jr. became president of Dinuba Lumber Co. Brooks Jr. is pictured far below.Today Dinuba Lumber is a full line Ace Hardware, Equipment Rental business, ready mix concrete producer, and a Building and Landscape materials yard.
